13941 (2026). Debbie Ngarewa-Packer to the Minister of Revenue: What consideration, if any, has been given to temporary fuel tax relief, and what advice has been received?
Hon Simon Watts: The government has not considered changes to fuel tax settings as this revenue is used to fund land transport infrastructure, including road construction, maintenance, public transport, and safety initiatives. Changes would also be less targeted than the other interventions the government has implemented in response to fuel price increases, such as the targeted, temporary $50-per-week tax credit for roughly 143,000 lower-income working families to help with high fuel prices.
