13939 (2026). Debbie Ngarewa-Packer to the Minister for Energy: What permanent measures, if any, is the Government taking to reduce fuel costs for households and small businesses?
Hon Simeon Brown: The Government is focused on structural and enduring measures to reduce fuel and energy costs over time, rather than short‑term price interventions. Key actions include strengthening fuel security through minimum fuel stockholding obligations, improving market resilience via the Fuel Security Plan, and reducing exposure to international supply shocks. Over the longer term, the Government is also supporting fuel diversification, electrification, and low‑carbon alternatives, which will reduce reliance on imported fuels and improve affordability for households and small businesses.
