13932 (2026). Debbie Ngarewa-Packer to the Minister for Energy: What modelling, if any, has been done on reducing fuel import costs through electrification of transport and homes?

Hon Simeon Brown: I am advised that work to date has focused on electricity system impacts rather than modelling fuel import cost reductions directly. Electrification of transport and homes is expected to reduce demand for imported fossil fuels over time, improving energy security and reducing exposure to international fuel price volatility.
