13824 (2025). Camilla Belich to the Minister for Social Development and Employment: What is the total amount, if any, spent on severance payments and redundancy packages by any agencies under the Minister’s responsibility since 27 November 2023, broken down by agency and highest individual payment?
Hon Louise Upston: In relation to total amount spent on redundancies by Ministry of Social Development, I refer the Member to my response to Written Parliamentary Question 8054 (2025). The average redundancy payment paid by the Ministry to individuals since 27 November 2023 is $70,954.47. The highest individual payment spent on severance or redundancy since 27 November 2023 was between $180,000 and $190,000. The Ministry of Social Development’s redundancy provision is based on length of service. Some individuals have grand-parented redundancy provisions which vary from the standard redundancy provision. I am advised that the Ministry of Social Development interprets redundancy packages as the total sum attributed to a redundancy payment and are only providing data for the Ministry of Social Development.
