13738 (2026). Tamatha Paul to the Minister of Justice: Does the Minister consider current IPCA funding and staffing levels sufficient to investigate the growing number of complaints the authority receives in a timely and comprehensive manner, and if not, what additional resourcing is planned?
Hon Paul Goldsmith: It is a priority for the Government to make sure there is robust and timely oversight of Police. In response to the IPCA report ‘Review of Police handling of complaints against Jevon McSkimming’, Cabinet announced an intention to strengthen the oversight and assurance mechanisms for Police by establishing an Inspector General of Police. The particulars of the establishment of the Inspector General of Police, and future arrangements are under active consideration.
