13416 (2026). Dr Lawrence Xu-Nan to the Minister of Education: What changes, if any, have been made to the travel allowance for Relief Teachers as a result of the current impacts of the fuel crisis?

Hon Erica Stanford: As per announcements made on 20 April 2026, the Relief Teacher Transport Allowance will be temporarily increased as follows: • car reimbursement will increase from around 37 cents to 83 cents per kilometre • motorbike reimbursement will increase from around 15 cents to 31 cents per kilometre. This took effect on 20 April 2026 and will remain in place for up to 12 months, or until the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment measured price of 91 octane fuel has been below $3 per litre for four consecutive weeks.
