Written Question

13407 (2026). Hon Willow-Jean Prime to the Minister for Social Development and Employment: Is there additional financial support available for people who receive Youth Payment or Young Parent Payment who can’t afford fuel to meet their Youth Payment or Young Parent Payment obligations; if so, what is this support and to what obligations, if any, does it apply?
Hon Louise Upston: There are no changes to benefits or obligations at the current time. However MSD offers a range of payments that may be able to assist with transport costs, such as Special Needs Grants for one-off essential or emergency needs, or Temporary Additional Support if clients have regular essential living costs that cannot be met from their chargeable income and other resources. I encourage clients who are experiencing difficulties fulfilling their obligations due to transport costs to discuss their situation with MSD. This is also my response to written parliamentary questions 13408, 13410, 13411, 13415, 13417, 13418, 13419, 13420, 13421, 13423, 13425, 13429, 13431, 13430, 13433, 13432, 13434,13436, 13412, 13414, 13424, and 13435 (2026).
