13403 (2024). Hon Dr Duncan Webb to the Minister of Corrections

13403 (2024). Hon Dr Duncan Webb to the Minister of Corrections: Did Corrections have any particular policies and/or procedures in place, or did it give specific guidance to probation officers to ensure that people on home detention were able to vote in the 2023 General Election other than the general position set out in WPQ 11075 (2024)?
Hon Mark Mitchell: While site-specific guidance may have been available to staff, I am advised that Corrections would be required to consult with every individual Community Corrections site to determine what specific guidance was available. I am not prepared to ask my officials to carry out this task for the purposes of this response. As per my response to WPQ 11075 (2024), Section 80C of the Sentencing Act 2002 enables Probation Officers to authorise people subject to home detention to leave their address for a number of reasons such as voting. Furthermore, as with other people who could not attend a voting station, people on home detention or other electronically monitored sentences had the option to authorise a representative to collect and deliver voting papers on their behalf.
