Hon Rachel Brooking to the Minister for Food Safety: Was any assessment or analysis of possible options provided to the Minister in developing the proposal to transfer meat inspection responsibilities from AsureQuality to meat processing companies, and if so, what are the dates and titles of this information?

Hon Andrew Hoggard: I have not received assessments or analysis of alternative options in relation to this proposal. Decisions on inspection models and regulatory settings under the Animal Products Act 1999 are operational matters for the Ministry for Primary Industries, which is currently considering feedback from consultation.
