13357 (2026). Francisco Hernandez to the Minister of Statistics: Will the Minister seek advice regarding a compulsory person register, which other jurisdictions with administrative-first census models currently have in place, and how confident is the Minister that New Zealand's current arrangements will be sufficient for collecting good data under the proposed new census changes?

Hon Scott Simpson: I am advised by Stats NZ that a national ID number and register-based system is not a requirement for an admin data-first census.
