13357 (2024). Hon Ginny Andersen to the Minister of Corrections: Does Corrections share intelligence with Police regarding an individual's membership of a gang, including whether a prisoner has left or has not left a gang, if so, what intelligence is shared?

Hon Mark Mitchell: I am advised that the New Zealand Gang Intelligence Centre Approved Information Sharing Agreement outlines the information shared for people in gangs, including information held by Corrections. I refer the member to the following link: https://www.police.govt.nz/about-us/publication/new-zealand-gang-intelligence-centre-approved-information-sharing-agreement I am further advised that a Memorandum of Understanding between Corrections and Police is in place that enables the disclosure of information for the purposes of enhancing public safety and law enforcement, including the prevention of offending, through the necessary release of relevant official and personal information. Sharing intelligence complies with obligations under the Privacy Act 2020 (and the Health Information Privacy Code 2020 where applicable), the Official Information Act 1982 and the Corrections Act 2004.
