13332 (2024). Hon Jan Tinetti to the Minister of Education: Does the Minister stand by her statement that she has “been looking around the world at what everyone else does” with regards to changes to the curriculum; if so, will she do the same with all future changes she makes?
Hon Erica Stanford: Yes, I have been looking at approaches to curriculum taken by other jurisdictions and considering those which might work well in a New Zealand context. It is important that we have an internationally comparable curriculum that is focussed on excellence, and an education system that puts young New Zealanders on the global stage as confident, capable and innovative learners. The approaches of peer countries can help to inform changes, particularly where evidence shows they are supporting better outcomes for learners. I intend to continue to keep a close eye on what is working well, in New Zealand and abroad, to ensure that our curriculum is providing students with the knowledge and skills they need to succeed, as well as great pathways into further education and employment.
