13290 (2026). Oriini Kaipara to the Associate Minister of Housing: What involvement, if any, does the Ministry of Social Development have in planning for potential impacts on people experiencing homelessness in the Tāmaki Makaurau electorate arising from the Government’s proposed changes to Police move‑on powers?
Hon Tama Potaka: I am advised that the Ministry of Social Development (MSD) is not leading this policy but is being consulted by the Ministry of Justice on the development of options to ensure continued access to services and supports for people who may be issued with a move-on order.
MSD has a range of housing-related assistance that may be available for those in need, including emergency housing, referral to transitional housing and assessment of eligibility for social housing. I encourage anyone who may be sleeping rough to discuss their situation with MSD.
