13283 (2026). Oriini Kaipara to the Minister for Māori Development: What modelling or analysis, if any, has been undertaken on the potential number of job losses, service reductions, or station closures that could result from a reduction in Te Māngai Pāho funding in 2026/27?

Hon Tama Potaka: Budget 2023 appropriated $16 million in time‑limited funding to support Māori news and current affairs and related infrastructure on a sector‑wide basis and the funding was not specifically allocated to individual contracts. This time-limited funding ends on 30 June 2026. A sector consultation document outlining Te Māngai Pāho’s high‑level strategic direction and funding scenarios has been shared with the sector, and consultation is ongoing, including with Te Whakaruruhau o Ngā Reo Irirangi Māori o Aotearoa. As Te Māngai Pāho is still consulting on its approach to funding for 2026/27, no specific modelling of the sort the Member seeks has been done.
