Hon Julie Anne Genter to the Minister of Conservation: What consultation, if any, has been done with Chatham Island's manawhenua (Moriori and Ngāti Mutunga) about the proposed restructuring in the Chatham Islands District Change Proposal that will be decided on end of May 2024 and what were their views?

Hon Tama Potaka: The Department of Conservation advises me that organising its work force to deliver the best possible conservation outcomes within the available resources is an internal matter. The proposed change in operational delivery model for the Chatham Islands has therefore only been formally consulted on with the affected teams and individuals. Once the change proposal was delivered to the affected teams, the key purpose of the change and the proposed approach was shared with both Moriori and Ngāti Mutunga o Wharekauri and they have been encouraged to share their thoughts on opportunities or areas for improvement in the way the Department works with them to improve the delivery of conservation outcomes.
