12995 (2024). Hon Ginny Andersen to the Minister of Police: How many smash and grabs, if any, have occurred in the Manawatu-Wanganui Region since December 2023, by month?

Hon Mark Mitchell: I am advised that there is no specific offence for smash and grab offences. Depending on the circumstance of each offence, such occurrences would likely be recorded as theft, burglary, or robbery victimisations. As there is no specific offence code for smash and grab and no relevant fields that can be used to find such offences, I consider that given the time and cost associated with collating this information that it is not in the public interest to provide the information the Member has requested. However, Police publishes data on victimisations on its website http://policedata.nz, including for those specifically at ‘retail’ locations.
