12938 (2026). Arena Williams to the Minister of Commerce and Consumer Affairs: Does the Minister support Consumer New Zealand's position that New Zealand needs a national anti-scam framework requiring banks, telcos and digital platforms to take action to address scams and outlining their liability if they fail to meet their obligations; if not, why not?
Cameron Brewer: The New Zealand Anti-Scam Alliance brings together government, industry, and consumer organisations in a unified partnership that strengthens New Zealand’s ability to prevent, detect, and disrupt scams. As part of the Alliance, banks, telecommunications companies and digital platforms agreed to adopt or update voluntary codes of practice that outline their responsibilities to their customers. Significant progress has been made.
