12909 (2026). Arena Williams to the Minister of Commerce and Consumer Affairs: Does the Minister support the 140 working day statutory timeframe for merger clearances in the Commerce (Promoting Competition and Other Matters) Amendment Bill?

Cameron Brewer: Yes. The 140-working-day timeframe is intended to accommodate complex merger assessments, while most merger clearances are expected to be completed significantly earlier. I expect the Commerce Commission to progress matters efficiently to provide certainty to merging parties.
