12888 (2026). Debbie Ngarewa-Packer to the Minister of Health: What assessments, if any, have been completed on the impact of fuel prices on healthcare access in regional and rural communities?
Hon Simeon Brown: The Government has announced cost of living support for families struggling with the rising fuel costs. From 7 April, around 143,000 families with children will receive an extra $50 per week through a boost to the in-work tax credit, with a further 14,000 families receiving a smaller increase. Ensuring access to healthcare services for patients is a priority. The mileage rate for people using private vehicles under the National Travel Assistance Scheme has also been temporarily increased to help offset rising fuel costs.
