12859 (2026). Arena Williams to the Minister of Commerce and Consumer Affairs: Does the Minister agree with Ruairi O'Shea writing for Consumer New Zealand that "While consumers in Australia are enjoying greater scam protections, in New Zealand, the problem is bad and getting worse", and if not, why not?
Cameron Brewer: No. Last year, the government efficiently and effectively established an alliance of organisations though the New Zealand Anti-Scam Alliance to strengthen New Zealand’s response to scams, without the delay of a regulatory response. The Alliance has already seen success, through greater protections for banking customers and digital platform users.
