12817 (2026). Oriini Kaipara to the Minister for Social Development and Employment: What proportion, if any, of food bank funding administered by the Ministry of Social Development is provided to kaupapa Māori or iwi led providers?
Hon Louise Upston: The Ministry of Social Development (MSD) funds a diverse group of community food organisations to ensure that those with the most need can access community food support. While MSD does not collect data on kaupapa Māori or iwi-led providers, funding decisions are informed by regional staff who have local knowledge of which organisations are best placed to support the needs of their communities. Provider lists and more information about previous funding rounds can be found on the MSD website: https://www.msd.govt.nz/what-we-can-do/community/food-secure-communities/community-food-response-funding.html.
