12811 (2026). Hon Ginny Andersen to the Minister for Tertiary Education: What were the two funding decisions reversed by the DCE Delivery during the 2025 Investment Round and why was each decision reversed?
Hon Penny Simmonds: I have been informed by the Tertiary Education Commission that the two funding decisions reversed by the DCE Delivery were The Teachers' Institute and Te Whare Mairanga o Nga Kura a Iwi. Both organisations were requesting funding for teacher education programmes. The Teachers' Institute was reversed as the provision was a government priority, and the delivery model was innovative. The approval for funding was subject to The Teachers' Institute receiving the necessary approvals and accreditation from NZQA and the Teachers Council. Te Whare Mairanga o Nga Kura a Iwi was reversed as the provision was a government priority. The approval for funding was subject to Te Whare Mairanga o Nga Kura a Iwi receiving the necessary approvals and accreditation from NZQA, and the TEC Micro-credentials Team. While Te Whare Mairanga o Nga Kura a Iwi was also subject to Teachers Council approval it was subsequently determined that the programme they were approved for did not require this approval.
