12801 (2026). Hon Ginny Andersen to the Minister for Tertiary Education: On how many occasions, if any, did the TEC Chief Executive or tier two managers meet with Ministry of Education officials where the Teachers’ Institute was discussed prior to the decision by the DCE Delivery to reverse the TEC funding panel’s decision not to fund the Institute in the 2025 Investment Round and for each such meeting, what was the date, who attended the meeting and what was discussed?
Hon Penny Simmonds: I have been advised that a Microsoft Teams call took place on Tuesday, 11 June 2024 between Tim Fowler and Gillian Dudgeon of the Tertiary Education Commission, and David Fergusson and Dr Nina Hood of the Teachers Institute. The purpose of the call was for the Teachers’ Institute to introduce their organisation, outline their intention to seek TEC funding, and discuss TEC’s funding processes. During the call, the Teachers’ Institute also provided an overview of their programme model and explained how it compares to existing university based teacher education programmes, including sharing their experiences with this style of training to date.
