12785 (2024). Hon Dr Ayesha Verrall to the Minister responsible for Ministerial Services: How many, if any, current MPs are currently employed by Ministerial Services, and what Ministerial Offices are they based in?

Rt Hon Christopher Luxon: I am advised that there are no current MPs employed by Ministerial Services to work in a Ministerial Office. The recruitment of Ministerial Office staff is managed by the Ministerial Services group, within the Department of Internal Affairs. The recruitment process includes active management of conflict-of-interest matters. Being an MP while working in a Ministerial Office would raise conflict-of-interest matters which could not be mitigated. It would also not be possible to appropriately meet the responsibilities required of two full time roles.
