12781 (2026). Hon Ginny Andersen to the Minister for Tertiary Education: How many new providers, if any, considered in the TEC’s Investment Rounds for 2025 and 2026 did not have the necessary NZQA and Teaching Council approvals for their programmes when the TEC funding panel considered their applications and for each such provider, what was its name, what approval or accreditation did it not have and when, if at all, was its funding application approved?
Hon Penny Simmonds: I have been informed by the Tertiary Education Commission that in the 2025 Investment Round there were 7 providers that did not have the necessary NZQA and/or Teaching Council approvals. Te Kotahitanga E Mahi Kaha Trust Approval needed from: NZQA Result: Declined Intercultural Communication & Language Centre Approval needed from: NZQA Result: Declined School of Business Approval needed from: NZQA Result: Declined Te Whare Mairanga o Nga Kura a Iwi Approval needed from: NZQA Result: Approved The Teachers' Institute Approval needed from: NZQA and Teaching Council Result: Approved MAINZ Limited Approval needed from: NZQA Result: Declined Talent International Institute Approval needed from: NZQA Result: Declined In 2026 all new providers had the necessary NZQA and/or Teaching Council approvals.
