12773 (2024). Hon Willow-Jean Prime to the Minister of Education
Written Question
Published date: 30 May 2024
12773 (2024). Hon Willow-Jean Prime to the Minister of Education: What, if any, Māori education representatives and organisations does the Minister intend to work collaboratively with to develop a Māori education work programme, listed by name or organisation and/or role?
Hon Erica Stanford: It is my expectation that the Ministry of Education (the Ministry) will engage widely and regularly with Māori Education representatives and organisations in the development and delivery of a Māori Education work programme.
Decision-making around specific representatives and organisations the Ministry will work with is ongoing. To assist the Member, I can advise that I have met with the following Māori Education representatives and organisations over recent months:
• Mātauranga Iwi Leaders’ Group
• Te Matakahuki
• Te Kōhanga Reo National Trust
• Te Tauihu o Ngā Wānanga
• Te Rūnanga Nui o Ngā Kura Kaupapa Māori o Aotearoa
• Ngā Kura ā Iwi o Aotearoa
• Te Akatea New Zealand Māori Principals’ Association.
I also meet with both Māori principals and educators individually, and others who hold roles in educational organisations.
