12734 (2025). Camilla Belich to the Minister of Internal Affairs: What is the total amount, if any, spent on social media advertising and influencers by any agencies under the Minister’s responsibility since 27 November 2023, broken down by agency and platform?
Hon Brooke van Velden: The Department of Internal Affairs:
I am advised that providing the member with this information would require a substantial manual collation exercise and divert staff from their core duties. In accordance with Speaker’s ruling 210/6, I consider that the time, and hence the expense of answering the Member’s question is not in the public interest.
Office of Film and Literature Classification (the Classification Office):
I am advised that the Classification Office’s total amount spent on social media advertising from 27 November 2023 to date was $5,410. This total is unable to be broken down by platform. No amount was spent on social media influencers.
Lotto New Zealand:
I am advised that Lotto New Zealand’s total amount spent on social media advertising from 27 November 2023 to date was $270,914. This total is unable to be broken down by platform. No amount was spent on social media influencers.
Fire and Emergency New Zealand (Fire and Emergency):
I am advised that Fire and Emergency’s total amount spent on social media advertising and influencers from 27 November 2023 to date was $495,850.53. This total is unable to be broken down by platform.
