12639 (2025). Camilla Belich to the Minister of Customs: What is the total amount, if any, spent on temporary accommodation for staff, contractors, or consultants by any agencies under the Minister’s responsibility since 27 November 2023, broken down by agency and purpose?
Hon Casey Costello: I am advised that from October to December 2024, the New Zealand Customs Service (Customs) temporarily rented a property in Queenstown, New Zealand to accommodate Customs staff who were usually located in Christchurch. These staff supported extended operating hours at Queenstown International Airport while locally based Queenstown staff were recruited. The total cost for this temporary accommodation for staff was $20,770. The Border Executive Board Secretariat staff are employed by Customs. However, no temporary accommodation costs have been paid for Secretariat staff since 27 November 2023.
