12591 (2024). Hon Rachel Brooking to the Minister for the Environment: Is the Minister progressing a legislation bid for the regulation of biotechnology, and if not, which minister is, or which ministers are, progressing a bid, if any?

Hon Penny Simmonds: I am responsible for regulatory and policy work under the Hazardous Substances and New Organisms Act 1996. However, the Minister of Science, Innovation and Technology has the lead responsibility for developing policy in relation to biotechnology objectives and leading the regulatory reform of the law relating to Genetically Modified Organisms.
