12548 (2024). Dr Tracey McLellan to the Minister of Corrections: What advice, reports, papers or any other communications, if any, has the Minister seen or heard from Corrections about any potential impact the increase in prisoner numbers at Waikeria might have on staff safety?

Hon Mark Mitchell: While I have not received advice about staff safety at Waikeria Prison, ensuring the safety of staff and people in prison is Corrections’ priority across all Corrections-managed prisons and is considered in all of Corrections’ goals and strategies. Page 43 of Corrections’ Annual Report provides some of the work Corrections is doing to improve the safety of frontline staff. This is also my response to WPQ 12550 (2024).
