12533 (2025). Hon Dr Ayesha Verrall to the Minister of Health: What training, if any, is provided to Health New Zealand staff on their obligations under the Official Information Act 1982?

Hon Simeon Brown: My expectation is that Health New Zealand follows the law. Health New Zealand's compliance with the Official Information Act 1982 is a matter for Health New Zealand. However, I am advised that since the investigation commenced under the previous government in 2022, Health New Zealand has undertaken a number of improvements and completed the majority of recommendations outlined in the Ombudsman’s report. This includes ensuring leadership has in place relevant accountability measures, and all staff complete a module on the OIA as part of induction. I am further advised that Health New Zealand also requires staff working closely with OIAs to complete the Ombudsman’s training module.
