12463 (2024). Hon Barbara Edmonds to the Minister for Economic Development: For each of the new policy initiatives in the Minister’s responsible Vote for Budget 2023, if any, how many, if any, Full Time Equivalents are currently working on these initiatives, broken down by individual initiative?

Hon Melissa Lee: I am advised that the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment does not currently track staff numbers in this way. It’s important to note that some MBIE staff support multiple portfolios and that portfolios are also often supported by other business units and enabling functions to support their work. For their Briefings to Incoming Ministers, MBIE undertook a one off manual exercise to calculate staff working in the operational and policy areas by portfolio. I am also advised that New Zealand Trade and Enterprise (NZTE) does not currently track staff numbers in this way. NZTE staff may support a variety of initiatives, both existing and new, and may work across different business units to deliver their work.
