12455 (2025). Steve Abel to the Associate Minister of Agriculture: How, if at all, will the Minister take into consideration the High Court ruling in November 2020 that the standards on farrowing crates and mating stalls for pigs were unlawful, in the revision of the Code of Welfare for Pigs and associated regulations?

Hon Andrew Hoggard: I acknowledge the High Court of New Zealand decision of November 2020. I am currently considering advice that I have received from the National Animal Welfare Advisory Committee, the Ministry for Primary Industries, and New Zealand Pork, that is subsequent to it. After this I will seek Cabinet’s agreement to progress the code and associated regulations that I decide on.
