12417 (2026). Hon Jo Luxton to the Minister of Customs: How many, if any, ports do not currently have an official from Customs New Zealand on site; expressed as a percentage of total ports?

Hon Casey Costello: I am advised that seven of the 16 Customs sea ports do not currently have a permanent Customs officer on site, representing 43.75 percent of all Customs seaports in New Zealand. Where Customs officers are not permanently based on site, these ports are resourced from the nearest major seaport, or Customs office.
