12416 (2026). Hon Jo Luxton to the Minister of Customs

12416 (2026). Hon Jo Luxton to the Minister of Customs: How many, if any, ports do not currently have an official from Customs New Zealand on site; and, if any, which ones?
Hon Casey Costello: I refer the Member to the attached appendix, which lists the seven seaports where Customs does not currently have a permanent officer on site. Where Customs officers are not permanently based at a port, those locations are resourced from the nearest major seaport or Customs office. Some Customs ports as designated by notice in the New Zealand Gazette, have conditions or restrictions applying to arriving and departing craft. These may include limits on the number of arrivals, specified operating hours, or a requirement for prior Customs approval for an arrival or departure. Customs approval is required where a craft intends to arrive at a location that is not a gazetted Customs port.
