12378 (2026). Ingrid Leary to the Associate Minister of Health: What supports exist to support those with Young-onset Dementia to access behaviour therapy, if required, if any?
Hon Casey Costello: I am advised that general practitioners can refer patients to a mental health or memory clinic, which can prescribe and provide behaviour therapy where clinically appropriate. I am further advised that access to additional services, such as post-diagnostic support and navigation, is available through the local needs assessment service. I am also advised that people may choose to make direct contact with NGOs, which offer support including education, advocacy and practical strategies for people living with younger onset dementia and their whānau.
