12361 (2025). Francisco Hernandez to the Minister for Vocational Education
Written Question
Published date: 10 Apr 2025
12361 (2025). Francisco Hernandez to the Minister for Vocational Education: How many fulltime-equivalent staff have there been at Toi Ohomai Institute of Technology/Te Pūkenga for each year from 2023 to 2025, if any?
Hon Penny Simmonds: The data in the attached table provides full-time equivalents (FTE) at Te Pūkenga regional ITP business divisions. This data is for permanent and fixed-term staff only as at December 2023 and December 2024 source from payroll data. December 2025 data is not yet available.
The nature of regional ITP business models means that staff are recruited throughout the year based on the timing of course and qualification delivery, and learner demand. Therefore, the numbers are not static for the year. These numbers are not comparable with previous annual report staff numbers for Te Pūkenga given they are division specific and have been collated for the purposes of these questions.
In 2024, a number of National Office staff also returned to ITP divisions through redeployment as part of the change processes to devolve back to the regional divisions in line with the Minister’s expectations.
This information has been sourced from Te Pūkenga reporting and Te Pūkenga itself would be the first best place to request the most up-to-date information regarding their FTEs, especially data pertaining to 2025.
This is also my response to written parliamentary questions 12362, 12363, 12364, 12365, 12367, 12368, 12369, 12370, 13272, 13274, 13275, 13276, 13277 and 13278 (2025).
