12215 (2026). Lemauga Lydia Sosene to the Minister of Internal Affairs: How will Fire and Emergency New Zealand ensure that rural fire services have the diesel reserves to operate during a prolonged fuel shortage given the often wide areas they need to cover?
Hon Brooke van Velden: I am advised that Fire and Emergency New Zealand does not maintain operational diesel reserves, and instead relies on commercial fuel stations to supply their fleet as needed. Fire and Emergency is identified as a life supporting service, as defined in the Government’s 2026 Fuel Response Framework, and will work with the government response to maintain critical services throughout all phases. This is also my response to Written Question 12216 (2026).
