12204 (2026). Hon Jo Luxton to the Minister of Agriculture: Broken down by fertiliser input, how much is imported versus locally produced, including a list specifying phosphate, nitrogen, and other inputs required?
Hon Todd McClay: • Urea – approximately 33% is produced locally
• Lime – almost 100% is produced locally
• Superphosphate (produced locally from imported products)
• Sulphur, Diammonium Phosphate, Rock Phosphate, Potassium and Ammonium Sulphate are all imported.
Fertiliser companies report there is sufficient fertiliser both in New Zealand and on order to meet demand.
