12144 (2026). Scott Willis to the Minister for Energy: Has the Energy Markets Branch of the Ministry of Business Innovation and Employment paid any external individuals or organisations to undertake any work since the 2022/23 financial year; if so, what is the total expenditure, if any, on any such individuals or organisations each year since 2022/23, inclusive of the current financial year?

Hon Simeon Brown: I am advised that the Energy Markets branch paid the following amounts to external individuals or organisations by financial year: $885,153 in 2023/24; $1,754,262 in 2024/25; $2,435,183 in 2025/26 (as at end of February 2026). In 2022/23 the Energy Markets branch was combined with the Energy Resources branch and the Energy and Resources branch paid $4,643,815 to external individuals or organisations.
