12048 (2026). Francisco Hernandez to the Minister for Tertiary Education: Since 27 November 2023, what persons, if any, have been appointed to a board role position that wasn't on a shortlist provided to you as responsible Minister?

Hon Penny Simmonds: All Ministerial appointments I am responsible for go through a standard process facilitated by the Ministry of Education (for appointments to the Board of the Tertiary Education Commission) or the Tertiary Education Commission (for appointments to vocational sector entities). This includes seeking nominations from a range of sources, shortlisting, and consulting Ministers on proposed appointments via the Cabinet Appointments and Honours Committee process before they are confirmed. All appointments I have made in my capacity as Minister for Vocational Education since November 2023 have followed this process.
