11814 (2026). Debbie Ngarewa-Packer to the Associate Minister for Energy: On what date, did the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment first advise the Minister, if at all, that the closure of the Strait of Hormuz posed a material risk to New Zealand's diesel supply?
Hon Shane Jones: The conflict began on Saturday evening, 28 February 2026 (NZT) and advice was provided almost immediately. MBIE monitored developments as they emerged and provided me with an initial briefing on Sunday, 1 March 2026, advising that disruption to shipping through the Strait of Hormuz could pose a material risk to New Zealand’s fuel supply.
