11765 (2026). Camilla Belich to the Prime Minister: Of the roles added at the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet in the year to 31 December 2025, if any, how many are funded beyond 30 June 2026, and what is the estimated cost of disestablishing those that are not?

Rt Hon Christopher Luxon: In my capacity as the Prime Minister, I am the responsible minister for the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet (DPMC). The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) was a departmental agency hosted by DPMC until 25 September 2025. The Cyclone Recovery Chief Executive was a functional Chief Executive appointed under the Public Service Act 2020 in March 2023 and disestablished with effect from 1 July 2025. I am advised that in July 2025 DPMC announced final organisation change decisions following staff consultation. The roles established and disestablished in DPMC for the 2024/25 financial year are set out in Question 68: Roles proposed to be cut, in the DPMC Annual Review 2024/25, which is available on the following website: https://www3.parliament.nz/resource/en-NZ/54SCGOA_EVI_f908c1ba-7843-46a1-b6a2-08de12a0458d_GOA47335/db3f4f71c63398f61088f382597957a54c1b122b Due to privacy reasons details of the redundancies including associated costs cannot be disclosed. DPMC’s payment amounts are consistent with contractual obligations. I am advised that of the 69 roles established, 68 roles are funded beyond 30 June 2026. Planning for the current financial year is under active consideration and therefore not available.
