11747 (2026). Camilla Belich to the Minister of Customs: Of the roles added at the New Zealand Customs Service in the year to 31 December 2025, how many are funded beyond 30 June 2026, if any, and what is the estimated cost of disestablishing those that are not?
Hon Casey Costello: I am advised that Customs established 90 roles between 1 July 2025 to 27 March 2026. All of these roles are funded beyond June 2026, including 12 fixed-term roles related to projects which will be disestablished in 2026/27. There is no cost in disestablishing these roles.
The established roles relate to increasing Customs capacity and capability to respond to escalating activities by Transnational Serious and Organised Crime (TSOC) groups, projects including work on the new Border Security Bill, the eGate Replacement Project, and organisational change processes where roles were disestablished and new roles established.
