11663 (2026). Tangi Utikere to the Minister of Transport
Written Question

11663 (2026). Tangi Utikere to the Minister of Transport: Further to Reply 8827 (2026), of the 71 individuals whose licences were cancelled for non-response, how many were subsequently found to have been driving without a licence; and has NZTA taken any steps to verify compliance following cancellation?
Hon Chris Bishop: NZTA advises me that monitoring compliance with driver licensing requirements, including detecting unlicensed driving, is the responsibility of New Zealand Police rather than NZTA.
I refer the Member to my response to Written Parliamentary Question 8827 (2026) regarding the number of individuals whose licences were cancelled for non-response. Of the 69 individuals, I am further advised that one of these individuals has a recorded traffic offence for driving while disqualified since their licence was cancelled.
