11598 (2024). Teanau Tuiono to the Minister for Oceans and Fisheries: Does the Minister consider it acceptable that New Zealand registered fishing vessels continue to catch endangered species as bycatch?

Hon Shane Jones: I am advised there are several plans and initiatives in place to mitigate the impacts of fishing on protected and endangered species. Fisheries New Zealand works closely with the Department of Conservation, the fishing industry and NGOs to continue to reduce bycatch of these species.
