11585 (2024). Teanau Tuiono to the Minister for Oceans and Fisheries: What advice, if any, has the Minister received about measures to prevent fisheries related bycatch of Hector’s dolphin in the South Island waters since 1 January 2024?

Hon Shane Jones: I have received two notifications regarding Hector’s dolphin bycatch events in South Island waters since 1 January 2024. In each instance, I was informed that Fisheries New Zealand is working with relevant fishers, regional fleets and Seafood New Zealand to implement mitigation measures as per the South Island Hector’s Dolphin Bycatch Reduction Plan.
