11575 (2024). Teanau Tuiono to the Minister for Oceans and Fisheries: What advice, if any, has the Minister seen on the estimated population of Antipodean albatross in the year 2022/2023 and 2023/2024, and how does this compare to the estimated population in 2004 when New Zealand’s first “National Plan of Action – Seabirds” was released?
Hon Shane Jones: I have received advice on the impacts of fishing on a range of protected species. This advice has included information on: population health, modelled estimates of mortalities and the relevant measures in place to mitigate these impacts. Seabirds and other species population monitoring is led by the Department of Conservation and I would refer specific questions on that to the Minister of Conservation.
