11536 (2024). Dr Lawrence Xu-Nan to the Minister of Education: Further to Reply 10343, how many jobs, if any, are expected to be cut as a result of the disestablishment of the Reading Recovery and Early Literacy Support programme, listed by amount of jobs per region?
Hon Erica Stanford: Reading Recovery and Early Literacy Support (RR&ELS) teachers are employed by their school boards on an annual basis, subject to the school being granted RR&ELS funding in the annual application process. School boards will manage the redeployment, return to class teaching, and other processes for these staff once the term of their RR&ELS engagement comes to an end. This will be done in accordance with each employee’s employment agreement and will reflect standard practice as schools and teachers have moved in and out of RR&ELS. The Ministry of Education (the Ministry) is not involved in this process, and as such has no oversight of any potential job cuts.
