Tangi Utikere to the Minister of Transport: Further to Reply 8830 (2026), why did NZTA's public statements in November 2025 describe the fraud as having been discovered through an audit in July 2025, when Reply 8830 advises that the fraud was initially detected five months earlier in February 2025?

Hon Chris Bishop: NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA) advises that the review undertaken in February 2025 identified previously unknown potential issues. This particular issue was subsequently confirmed as fraud following the risk assessment completed in July 2025.
